Are You Interested In Presenting?
Conference Description
The Tapestries of Learning Symposium is a brand new and unique opportunity for graduate students at the Werklund School of Education to gain presentation experience and to network with provincial, national, and international guests and scholars. Furthermore, it is not only students who would benefit from attending as there are an equal number of spots for faculty, visiting scholars, post-docs, and staff to become involved in sharing and growing their knowledge as well.
Hosted by the Graduate Programs in Education Students' Association (GPESA) through the generous support of the Graduate Students' Association (GSA) Quality Money program and the Werklund School of Education (WSE) the mission of this conference is to weave the threads of education together as we strive to further build understanding, community, and collaboration across the unique specialization areas offered in Werklund.
We offer a multitude of ways to engage and present with our content including: interactive faculty presentations (30 min), adjudicated student oral (15 min) and poster presentations (Thursday Afternoon), and a host of keynotes and networking activities (Mornings). Additionally, we strive to make all of our content available live and online in order to include anyone learning from a distance, in an online course, or who is working off campus.
Conference Goals
• To weave the threads of education together from a wide range of specializations in a welcoming and supportive environment
• To provide a forum for professional networking and collaboration between all in attendance
Who Should Attend?
Any WSE Graduate Students, Faculty, Visiting Scholars, Post Doctoral Fellows, or Staff members interested in sharing their ongoing research and/or interested in networking and collaboration are encouraged to submit an abstract or register to participate in the day’s events. We absolutely welcome online and distance learners to not only attend but to present as well. We have the technology to assist you! Undergraduates in Education are also welcome to attend both days for free!
Call for Abstracts
We welcome abstract submissions for a number of different presentation mediums:
Faculty are welcome to submit abstracts for a thirty (30) minute interactive presentation which showcases research they are currently working on or developing. Ideally, the research should involve a graduate student in some capacity. Please also describe how your research helps to weave the threads of education together and what part of it will be interactive.
Graduate Students may submit abstracts for either oral presentations (12 minutes with 3 minutes for questions) or poster presentations (which are welcome to include photography, fine art, sculptures, etc.). Please also be sure to describe how your research helps to weave the threads of education together.
Presentations and posters from previous conferences are welcome. All Abstracts must fall within one of these categories:
1. Presentations about research that involves original data and/or analyses
2. Presentations of original syntheses of the literature
3. Presentations of proposed research projects (original contribution: proposal)
Presentation Options
Please Note: Each accepted presenter will be assigned one of the following presentation formats. Depending on the number of abstracts received, you may not receive your preferred method of presentation.
Faculty Interactive Presentations
This category includes faculty, visiting scholar, post doctoral fellows, and staff submissions. Each presenter will have approximately 25 minutes to speak and an additional 5 minutes for questions. Students from both thesis-based and course-based graduate programs are invited to apply. Each presenter will have approximately 12 minutes to speak and an additional 3 minutes for questions. Oral presentations should be tailored for a diverse audience and should contain language accessible to all graduate students and faculty members. Please try and explain in your abstract how you came to arrive at your research question and why it is of interest to you.
